“May the God of endurance
and encouragement
grant you to live in such harmony
with one another,
in accord with Christ Jesus.”

Open mouth. Insert foot. When my husband and I married, we chose this passage of Scripture for our ceremony. Little did we know how many times we would need to be reminded of these words. Paul goes on to write, “that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore accept one another as Christ has accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”  Many times, over the years, we’ve fallen short of this command. We’ve been tired and discouraged. Harmony? Imagine, if you will, the sound a cat makes when you try to put it in the bathtub. After a while, the cacophony becomes a white-noise machine to the balance that is married life. You. Me. We. Things quiet down. Being right becomes of lesser importance than being willing. Willingness to let go. Willingness to admit mistakes. Willingness to try again. God is writing a symphony in our marriage, where discord is met with harmony (in His perfect timing). Where love is like making beautiful music together.
